Supreme Image Quality With the Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera

If you are passionate about photography, and you want a SLR camera that will produce high quality images with every click, then the Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera is a fantastic choice. When you are looking to purchase a digital SLR camera, you will be spending a bit more money than if you were purchasing just a simple point and shoot camera. The D90 is a camera that all photographers of any level can use and produce professional standard images every time.

What Makes the D90 Image Quality So Good?

The designers of this SLR camera have taken ideas and functions from some of the higher priced and more professional Nikon SLR camera's and included them in this one. This is great news for the person looking to buy a new camera, whether for professional use or for use as a hobby.

First of all, the D90 has 12.3 megapixel image quality that has been taken from the more expensive and highly acclaimed Nikon D300. The D300 camera was one of the first Nikon cameras to have the DX-format with CMOS imaging sensor. The fact that it works so well and produces amazing images is important in that Nikon have now passed this technology onto many of their other SLR cameras.

A few other factors are important in the production of great photos. The D90 is able to produce low-noise images with exceptional details and tonal gradation. There is nothing worse than having to delete shots off your camera all the time because of a little bit of blur. This can be avoided with the D90 camera.

If you need to take photos at high speeds, then this is the camera for you. This unit is able to produce high resolution pictures at very high speeds, allowing for up to 4.5 images per second. The auto focus is also very fast, ensuring you don't miss one second of the action. There should be no excuse for missing that perfect moment with this camera in your hands.

Working out exposure can be trying at times. Well, the D90 can figure it out for you so that you can just get to work taking your great photos. There is advance scene modes that you can use when you are not too certain about which exact camera setting to use. If you select the appropriate mode, such as landscape, sports or night portrait, this camera will automatically optimize the exposure, image processing, Active D-Lighting and Picture Control so that you can capture your subject immediately and not have to play around with all the scientific parameters.

Choosing the Best Digital SLR Camera For Beginners

As a beginner in photography the thought of choosing a digital SLR camera must be very daunting! But don't despair, the world of digital photography is open to anyone and in this article I will offer some advice to steer you to choosing the best digital SLR for a beginner.

The first question to ask yourself is what will you use the camera for? If it's for recording family days out and holidays and all you really want is to take some decent quality photographs and digital point and shoot camera may be your bst option. They are far more compact and easy to carry and you will be more inclined to take it wherever you go. That said, a modern digital SLR is itself light and compact - don't be put off by people you see carrying huge bags of equipment and weighed down by 3 feet long lenses!

If you want to learn the art of photography and get involved in the creative process a digital SLR is the ideal tool. A range of helpful features is common now and even entry level DSLR's produce amazing results. Don't be baffled by the lists of features. Think about what they actually do and how will they help me to take the kind of photographs I want to. For example, higher end cameras will offer much faster shutter speeds. These are great for action and sports photography, for example capturing a bird in flight, but if you never plan to take such pictures don't spend more money for them.

Budget is of course a key factor when choosing the best digital SLR for beginners. You don't need to spend a fortune to get great results! Don't be baffled by salesmen and do your own research first - I stress again think about what kind of photography you're interested in. One of the key things beginners get baffled by when choosing a digital SLR is megapixels. These are basically the tiny dots that make up each picture, like you see on a television screen. Even entry level digital SLR's will have upwards of 6 megapixels and this is pefectly adequate for most situations. Unless you want to enlarge your pictures to poster size this is fine. Many point and shoot and entry level cameras have 10 or even 12 megapixels now. These again produce incredible results and would even be good enough to submit to stock sites to make money with your digital camera. Many would argue the lens at the front of the camera is more important than the number of megapixels.

So, set your budget, decide what type of photography you will use your digital camera for and research prices. Prices of digital cameras do vary and it's always worth comparing. When it comes to actually buying I always recommend you go to a store and touch and feel your camera. Choosing the best digital camera for anyone it's important that it feels good in your hands and that controls aren't too small or feel fragile.

Prangstgrup Library Musical - Reading on a Dream PRANK!!

Mike Barry and Anjuli Kolb star in an absolutely hilarious musical where they start singing broadway style music in a library filled with unsuspecting people. Lyrics (written by Brian Jacobs) What's this? What's this on the page? I can hardly believe my eyes. Everything that seems a new surprise and I'm doing it all because I'm readin' on a dream. Magical places and faces to see Poetry, science and technology Inspiration in my imagination I'm just a page or two away. Nobody sings in the library. Nobody here makes a peep. But I can't keep it in Yeah, I just gotta be singin' and nobody can stop me now. Because I'm readin' on a dream. Readin' on a hell of a feeling. And I wish that I could share but nobody ever dares. And I feel so alone. I'm happy, but I'm on my own. If only there was someone to s hare in this experience. (Anjuli Kolb stands) Would you give me a chance? And would you care to dance? Care!... to dance? (Together) Yes, we're readin' on a dream. We're Readin' on a hell of feeling and I found someone to share. Yes, what a wonderful pair. Readin' on a dream. We're readin' on a terrific feeling and I'm thinkin' it out loud. Yes, I'm thinkin' it out loud. Readin', readin' on a, readin', readin' on a, readin', we're reading on a dream. Let's do it!

Best DSLR Camera for Beginners - What You Need to Know

Whether you are experienced or beginners in the world of digital SLR, it can always be difficult to sort out all the makes, models and brands. If you are an avid photographer like me, or you just love to keep the events of life, a camera is a must have for you.

I have been an ardent photographer since young and have own more than 5 cameras over the past 12 years. Have owned both film and digital cameras but do not have the courage to venture into a digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera. My doubts were cleared, when my cousin showed me some of the photos she has taken at her brother's wedding using a Canon DSLR camera. The price is reasonable and the camera is simple to handle and maintain for a beginner. This digital camera for beginners comes with a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor, a dust-removing filter and using supersonic waves, which removes any dust particles collected on the lens whenever you use the camera.

Pros

Many of the advantages of SLR cameras derive from focusing and viewing the object through the lens attached. SLR cameras provide photographers a viewing image exposed onto the negative per exactly seen through the lens and this provide photographers with confidence and accuracy. The key popularity of digital SLR camera is the ability to select the best lens and interchangeable lenses and less shutter lags. With a DSLR, you can adjust the light, and electronic flash to prevent blurriness in your pictures.

Cons

The price of SLRs in general also tends to be somewhat higher than that of other types of cameras, owing to their internal complexity. Overall the camera is more bulky and heavy to carry around and use. SLR camera is also more complex to use but with digital SLR you could opt for either using the manual or auto features. Using the auto features will reduce the usage complexity but will take away the fun of experiencing high level photography with SLR features.

If you want to be able to do all those things and much more, the first thing you need to know is a little bit about how a SLR works. Which DSLR is best for amateur photographers. But the best thing you can do with your DSLR camera is to use it. Check the website below for best deals and find out more about DSLR camera for beginners; enjoy and have fun.

Choosing the Right Digital SLR Camera

In a world where photography rules both our lives and the commercial marketplace, it comes as no surprise that finding the right digital SLR cameras is a must for serious photographers and amateurs like. So where do you begin when you want to find the best camera for you?

The best thing you can do before selecting a camera is to know exactly what you need. For those who take photos for everyday purposes, you may not want to buy the most expensive SLR camera you can find. This wastes money, and an advanced camera may be too difficult for the beginner to understand. Also, be sure to select a camera that does not exceed your needs. For example, a professional photographer may need both video and still image features, while the amateur may simply want something very basic.

So what should you bear in mind when looking for the right camera?

According to experts, there are a few digital SLR cameras that are sure to satisfy your expectations, whether you're a photographer or someone who takes pictures for everyday family and social situations.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

When it comes to quality, it doesn't get much better than the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Satisfied customers boast that the camera is relatively inexpensive, when compared to many other digital SLRs. One computer review site rated the camera four stars, but most customers gave the camera a five-star review. The photo quality and exceptional performance has made it a great choice for many. This camera came as the successor to the EOS 5D, a camera that has pitted itself against its closest competitors-the Nikon D700 and the Sony Alpha DSLR A900.

The Mark II is a little heavier than the EOS 5D. However, it more than makes the grade by coming with two very unique configurations. For a mid-range camera, it has a lot of great benefits. Video capture is just one of the reasons people choose this cameras, technology editors say. The camera also has a new auto mode, a fairly new innovation by Canon. This is for the body version of the camera. The camera's EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens gives it a unique ability to be used in different ways.

Nikon D5000 (with 18-55mm lens)

Then, there's this camera-the Nikon D5000 (with 18-55mm lens). Touted by computer experts as Nikon's best DSLR, it has a lot of plusses to offer in terms of weight, price and size. Not only does this camera dynamic; it is also incredibly quiet. Owners say they were amazed by the camera's quietness, when they first used it. Released in April 2009, the Nikon D5000 three-d movie with audio and "19 scene modes," all of which make this a very diverse camera.

This camera is fairly large, but it also comes with a big view screen. The Nikon D5000 comes with a bunch of other great features, including LCD monitor settings, a D-Movie mode and in-camera editing.

Canon Powershot S90

The Canon Powershot S90 came as a great edition to the Canon family of cameras. Canon digital cameras have been around since the early 2000s. This version is the series' newest version. This camera is great for use in dim light, because of its flash abilities. If you're fan of Canon' Powershot series, this camera may be for you.

According to reviewers, this is one of Canon's sleekest and lightest cameras. It can easily fit inside your pocket, making it a great choice for those who don't have a lot of room to store equipment.

When it comes finding great digital SLR cameras, it's a good idea to find one that combines a number of features. The nice thing about this camera is that it is pretty straightforward and is very dynamic.

Of course, you will need to shop around to find the right one.

In the world of digital imaging, finding the right equipment is a top priority. Finding the right one is easy, especially when you have so many great choices available. These are just a few of the many choices available. And they're right at your fingertips.

Sony Alpha A200K Digital SLR Camera Review

Sony Alpha A200K was introduced by the company as an upgrade to the previous Sony Alpha 100. The upgrade attributes are clearly visible the moment you compare the two cameras as the new model is much faster, proffers improved noise control and has an LCD screen of 2.7 inches; which is slightly bigger than the Alpha 100.

Some of the good features of the previous model are integrated in this digital camera which encompasses dust control system, manual controls and megapixel CCD. This camera supports both type I and II compact flash cards but you have to buy them separately. Battery life of this camera is truly outstanding. You get to know about the remaining battery life all thanks to the on screen display. You will get faster auto focus speed as compared to the Alpha 100. It's not regarded as one of the top digital SLR cameras just like that.

Not only this digital camera can work with different kind of lenses but can be operated with a lot of other accessories. You can make use of an external flash to enhance flash power. Battery grips, Liquid crystal display protection covers and angle finders are some other accessories which this product supports. Now I know why this camera is amongst the best selling digital SLR cameras.

This digital camera without doubt offers commendable competition to other entry level cameras as it provides fantastic ergonomics and lots of helpful exposure alternatives. Photos created by this digital camera will be definitely of excellent quality mainly because of steady shot image stabilization system. This system notices any type of shakes when one is clicking images and automatically shifts the sensor for countering the shaky motion and that's the reason this product falls in the category of top 10 digital SLR cameras.

One can easily review photos on this digital camera since its LCD screen comes with 230,400 pixels. You get plenty of white balance options with this product. The function menu of this camera is very simple to use.

The improved features of Sony Alpha A200K make it the best digital SLR camera. It's ideal for both novice and pro photographers. This camera proffers some incredible options for improvising your digital experience. If you are looking out for an entry level digital camera then this product is something you should look into.

Capture Perfect Digital Sports and Action Shots - Digital Photography Tips Complementary Guide

What gets you all excited about your favourite sport?... the thrill of the chase in horse racing or maybe the atmosphere and tension of a ball game, maybe your favourite player?... Well if you were to capture some of these scenes how would you do it best? For some digital photography tips, let's take a look at a few ideas right now to capture that realism...

Get Familiar

It's worth getting familiar with the sport before you start shooting, for example, how points are scored, what causes penalties etc, as this will give you an advantage over others... you will learn to expect where the best action is likely to be, and you can then capture those glorious moments.

Another great tip, as well as aiming to catch the action, capture the 'emotion' too. Be ready to shoot players' faces on triumph of a goal, or any other emotive action in the game and you will bring your photos alive!

Be Prepared

Cold and bad weather conditions can quickly rob the life of your digital camera's battery, so it's important to always carry an extra charged battery especially for outdoor sports.

Action Techniques

Stop Action... you'll very quickly be able to shoot an action shot and 'freeze' your subject practically in mid air. Imagine the wheels of a drag car on a dirt road, bouncing off the many bumps... for those few seconds while the car is in mid air, snap away to capture the action.

Lighting is not too much of an issue if you're outside on a sunny or partially sunny day say at a car race, dog track, or horse race etc, but you'll maybe need to make adjustments if you're inside a gymnasium shooting a basketball game, for example. If the lighting is bright, then you'll probably be okay, but depending on the type of lighting, you may need to activate your fill flash if you shoot players in action and you find your photo colorizations shifting to 'yellow'.

Also bear in mind the distance, as your flash will not carry too far... it might be worth sitting near the basket hoop to catch the action!

Blurred Action... a couple of ideas behind blurred action is, firstly... if you look back at your photos you have taken using Stop Action, you may find one or two shots that did not freeze the action, which means your camera did not catch the action at the right moment... so you end up with an interestingly blurry effect to your subject.

Secondly, if you're shooting a ball game, for example, you may get blurring if your player moves just as you click your shutter. If you did not intend for this to happen, you might be pleasantly surprised with the effect!

Panned Action... the most difficult to accomplish, but probably the most effective shooting technique, once mastered. The advantage using your digital camera is that you can delete unwanted frames and start again, so here's how panning basically works...

Using your digital camera in automatic mode press the shutter half way down to focus on your subject, moving your camera sideways following the action, then pressing the shutter fully while still moving your camera. The effect created is the front of your subject should remain in fairly strong focus, while the back of your subject should start to blur, and as it blurs a long trail should appear, giving a feeling of movement like no other effect could possibly achieve.

Experiment

By knowing what your digital camera can do, experiment with different methods to get the best shots. You could try shooting in continuous mode, then try panning the camera along with your subject, whilst he/she or it is in motion.

I hope these digital photography tips are helpful. If you can get to grips with panning, as I have described above, you're on a winner!

Using Expensive SLR Cameras at Weddings

Most people see someone carrying expensive SLR cameras at weddings and are immediately struck by a sense of awe and respect, getting out of their way to let them take pictures of anything they like. SLR cameras have a distinctive look; the large barrel, the popup flash. They look like they mean business, unlike the slim point and shoot cameras that are designed to fit as much ability as possible into your pocket.

I own both an SLR and a point and shoot. Personally, I find that with a good enough point and shoot camera, the knowledge of how to use the manual settings is all I really need to produce a picture as good as one taken with the SLR. In some cases the picture may even turn out better, because my point and shoot has auto-focus and anti-shake technology built in. The limited ability to change exposure and aperture manually even helps, because it refuses to allow me to use a setting that will create an overly dim or overly bright picture.

Together, this means I can focus on creating the best frame and composition for each picture without worrying about whether it will turn out blurred, too dark, or too bright. With my SLR, I find myself taking the same picture over and over, adjusting settings minutely each time. Of course, given enough time and a tripod, say with a landscape scene, I can adjust everything until it produces an absolutely gorgeous picture. But in a wedding, where every moment is special and only occurs for an instant, I simply cannot afford the time to adjust my settings between each shot. It's a balance between leaving the camera on one setting and hoping it works for every shot I take, and risking missing out on something important as I adjust exposure and aperture. With a point and shoot camera, I let the camera worry about the basic settings, trusting it to adjust for light for me, and focus on capturing the events of the day in the best composition I can.

Besides, I would believe most brides would care more about the photographer catching the absolute joy on their face as they say "I do", than about how exact the light balance is in the background, as long as it is not completely wrong. The point and shoot camera can guarantee that my backgrounds will always look alright.

So why do so many camera companies sell the idea that an SLR is better than a point and shoot? For that matter, why do I own both? Well, as I said, when taking photographs of things that are not going to change significantly in the next 5 minutes, such as flowers or even models in a photoshoot, I can spend time fiddling with settings and produce National Geographic-worthy pictures. It's also far better when I want to take artistic shots or play with focal lengths and perspectives, because I can force the camera into settings a point and shoot will never allow, creating all kinds of interesting and unusual pictures. Every once in a while one of these pictures will be stunningly beautiful and artistic. But at an event where every moment is different yet important, I prefer to use my point and shoot for the reasons I detailed above.

Camera companies are not completely wrong to say an SLR is better than a point and shoot. The SLR has the potential to produce pictures of amazing quality, perspective and artistry that the point and shoot will only be able to imitate. But that's all it is, a potential. What it comes down to is the ability of the photographer to maximise the ability of his camera. In the hands of someone who knows exactly what setting to use for every shot, every possible scenario, every possible balance of light and shade, a point and shoot can produce better pictures than I can, stumbling around with my SLR.

Canon, Nikon & Sony Prosumer Full-Frame DSLR's

Introduction:

The full frame DSLR market is heating up - by the end of the year three major vendors, Nikon, Canon and Sony, will all have Full Frame ProSumer DSLR's in the market place, all at a similar price point.

The 12.1 megapixel Nikon D700, based on proven technology from both the Nikon D3 and Nikon D300, was announced back in July, and is already available. With an original MSRP of $2,999.95, only 3 months after its announcement street prices have already dropped to around the $2,750 mark.

Rumored for months, the 24.6 megapixel Sony Alpha A900 was finally officially announced on September 9th with an MSRP of $2,999.95, and should be shipping within the next few weeks.

A few days later, Canon announced the 21.1 megapixel Canon EOS 5D Mark II, offering a very comprehensive feature set, as well as adding 1080p HD Video, while undercutting both the Nikon and the Sony with its $2,699.99 MSRP. The camera should ship by the end of the year.

Three very different cameras, all at a very similar price point, make for an interesting choice for the consumer or professional with up to $3,000 to spend on a prosumer DSLR.

Nikon D700:

The Nikon D700 has the excellent year old sensor out of the Nikon D3, in a body comparable to the Nikon D300. With the optional MB-D10 battery pack (which also fits the Nikon D300), the D700 can achieve an impressive 8 f.p.s., while capturing 14-bit files, at least until the buffer fills.

High ISO performance on the D700 is outstanding, equal to the Nikon D3. The Nikon D700 is also has proven Autofocus and Metering. However, it is the lowest resolution camera in the group at only 12 megapixels, and that will turn off a lot of potential buyers.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II:

The 21.1 megapixel sensor has a similar resolution to the flagship Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III, however it has a much broader ISO range. In fact, its ISO range exceeds even the Nikon D3 and D700 at ISO 50-25,600 (vs. ISO 100-25,600 for the Nikons).

The sensor in 5D Mark II is a year newer than the sensor in the D700, and if the low light capabilities come even close to the Nikon D700's, then Canon have a very compelling camera on its hands with a significantly higher resolution over the Nikon. There are very few sample images floating round from the Canon, so it's too early to be sure, but the Canon has a lot of potential - we'll soon see how much difference an extra year of sensor development makes.

The big new feature on the Canon is the 1080p HD Video mode. For many, this feature is a gimmick at best, but for some this is a very powerful tool - the ability to use a significant range of high quality lenses, and have control over depth of field that just doesn't exist on consumer video cameras today. This will be a major selling point for some, and a nice to have for many.

Sony Alpha A900:

The Sony boasts the highest resolution of the three cameras, but falls short in two major areas: Its ISO performance is significantly narrower than its main rivals, and it only boasts 12 bit A/D conversion. For the vast majority of shooters, the 12-bit A/D won't make much, if any real world difference. The problem is more one of perception, a $3,000 full frame DSLR is almost expected to have 14 bit A/D conversion in today's market.

Comparing the Cameras:

You drive up in your new luxury car, and the first question your neighbor asks: "How much horsepower has that thing got?" With cameras, it's megapixels - right or wrong, that's going to be the major selling point for the average consumer, with ISO capabilities a very close second.

In reality, very few photographers need more than 12 megapixels. If you are publishing to the web, 3 megapixels is usually more than sufficient - my large 1920 by 1200 monitor is approximately 2.3 megapixels. A 1080p HD TV is less than 2.1 megapixels.

Most high quality prints are printed at 300 dpi (dots per inch), 150 dpi prints still look very good. At 300dpi, an 8x10 photo requires just over 7 megapixels. A 16x20 print at 150 dpi also requires 7.2 megapixels. How many people who buy these cameras are going to print beyond that?

The main advantage of more megapixels is the ability to crop. This is especially useful for nature, wildlife and sports photographers that need as much reach as possible. What matters to them is pixel density - the more "pixels on target" you can get with your longest lens, the more you can crop and the more effective reach you have. However none of these cameras have the highest pixel density out there - if you need reach, you'd be better served with a Nikon D300 or the new Canon 50D. To get the same pixel density as the Canon 50D in a full frame sensor, you'd need a full frame camera with almost 40 megapixels.

Whether you like it or not, the attribute of the camera that makes the headlines is the megapixel number. From a marketing perspective, that puts the Nikon D700 at a major disadvantage to the Canon 5D Mark II. On paper the Canon also wins in the ISO race, but only just. Until the camera is out there in the marketplace, we won't know for sure just how good its low ISO performance is. The Canon also has 1080p Video, which as stated before, will be a major selling point for some, and irrelevant for others.

Where the Nikon beats the Canon, is about everywhere else that counts: It has a higher maximum frame rate (especially if you add the MB-D10 grip to get 8fps, which more than doubles the Canons), and on paper it also has a superior AF system and metering system. In the same way that having more horsepower is meaningless if the car can't put that power down on the road (think transmission, suspension, tires, traction control), the Nikon D700 is still a very compelling package, especially for those that shoot sport or action.

The Sony A900 wins the megapixel race, but the Canon is very close behind. However it loses badly when you factor in ISO performance. Canon also has a much wider range of very high quality lenses to back up the camera, and offers 14-bit A/D conversion verses 12-bit on the Sony for those looking for ultimate image quality. It also has video support, and is about 10% cheaper, so the Canon effectively makes the Sony A900 a non-starter for most people.

Then it comes back to Nikon versus Canon. Both companies have a large range of professional quality lenses and other accessories to back up the camera. The Nikon is the clear choice for the sports shooter. The landscape or studio photographer will lean towards the extra resolution offered by the Canon. If the ISO performance turns out to be similar for both the Nikon D700 and Canon 5D Mark II, then for the wedding photographer and photo-journalist that need the low light capabilities, the Canon's extra resolution will give it the edge. Unless that is, that they specifically don't want to have to deal with larger image files (takes up more room on memory cards, longer to upload, longer to post process etc).

For everyone else, either the Nikon or Canon should meet or more likely exceed their needs, however Canon has the marketing advantage with the headline number. If you've spent a lot of time shooting in public, then you know someone is going to come up to you at some point and say "Nice camera, how many megapixels has that thing got?"

Nikon D3000 Takes the Place of the D40 and D60 - How Does the Nikon D3000 Compare to the D5000?

The new D3000 is Nikon's attempt to continue the corner on the "cheapest entry level DSLR" market. It comes into the market place at a cool $599, which includes the camera and the 18-55 mm kit lens. That is very attractive, considering only a few short years ago, the price of the D40, a 6-megapixel camera was just short of $1000 when it came onto the camera scene. Technology improvements and obviously competition have had their effects on lowering the price of the most inexpensive DSLR cameras.

But there is already an entry level camera in the Nikon stable. It is the Nikon D5000. So what are the differences between these two cameras, and which one is the better buy?

Starting with the basic specifications that always get the headlines, the D3000 has a 10.2 megapixel image sensor compared to the 12.3 image sensor of the D5000. While many people are driven to buy the newest camera with the most megapixels, it is not as significant a difference as the marketers would have you believe. A 10 megapixel image is capable of producing monstrous prints of just about any size you would want.

Other differences of note are listed here:

(D3000 listed first)     vs     (D5000 listed second)

Sensor size: 10.2MP  vs 12.3MP - slight Advantage D5000
LCD: 3.0" with 230K pixels vs 2.7" with 230K pixels - tilt LCD screen - slight Advantage D5000 because of the tilt screen
Live View:  no  vs yes - Advantage D5000
Continuous frames: 3fps  vs 4fps - slight Advantage D5000
Video:  no   vs  Yes 1280 x 720 (720p) 24 fps with mono sound - Major Advantage D5000
Price: $599  vs  $729  (both cameras have the same Kit Lens included) - your call based on the above features
Image quality: equal - Advantage D3000

From the differences listed, the Clear Advantage goes to the D5000. However, one must consider their own needs. The price difference is about $130, and the major feature causing that  price difference is the Video capability of the D5000. So, the bottom line will be the whether or not the buyer has a desire for Video in their camera. Many folks who are moving up from a point and shoot digital camera have become accustomed to having that capability. However, camera purists will be looking for a camera that has two things, The first is the ability to change lenses as shooting requirements change (hence the DSLR), and the second is the ability to control the cameras shooting setup by manually selecting the priority mode, such as Aperture or Shutter speed.

Are you willing to spend an extra $130 for the video capture feature?

Where To Find The Best Rated Digital Cameras

Can you name the three best rated ultra-compact, compact, and SLR digital cameras? Chances are most people can't. There are so many choices in digital cameras these days, it's very difficult to get consensus. What's more important though, is that you can tell the differences between the three main categories of digital cameras? Those categories being ultra-compact (subcompact), compact, and SLR digital cameras. Knowing the pros and cons and what features they include is the single biggest deciding factor in what makes the best rated digital camera for you.

Ultra compact cameras are, (as their name implies) very small cameras. They can slip into the smallest of places. Like your pants pocket, a shirt pocket, small purse or accessory pocket on your backpack. Because of their small size, they can be fragile, so it's good to look for durability as a feature. They can be a bit more expensive because of their size, and image quality can suffer somewhat. Those choosing a ultra-compact value portability above other features. The Olympus Stylus 790SW is a good example of a ultra-compact that is both small and very durable.

Compact cameras are bigger than the ultra compact cameras, but offer several more features. While not as portable, they do take better pictures, and offer more control over camera settings like shutter speed, and ISO settings. Because of their size, they usually have more powerful zoom lenses. While both compacts and ultra compacts have large LCD screens, your more likely to find a viewfinder included with the compact digital camera. The Canon PowerShot A570IS is one of the best selling and best rated cameras in this category. It offers some leading technology like image stabilization and face detection for auto focusing.

While both ultra compacts and compacts could be considered point and shoot cameras, our next category is not. The SLR digital camera is the choice of many professionals and serious hobbyist photographers worldwide. SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex. Basically, it means you see through the viewfinder exactly the same picture the camera sees. With SLR, you get complete control over all camera settings. Although many do include auto settings to ease the newbie SLR photographers learning curve. In addition SLR cameras have interchangeable lenses. Meaning you have a plethora of choices for shooting all kinds of shots from macro, to landscape, to wide angle to sports. The Canon Digital Rebel XTi and the Nikon D40 are both popular and well rated cameras in this category.

SLR Digital Cameras - Why Have A SLR Digital Camera

In the modern day of point and shoot digital cameras, it has to be queried as to whether there is any place for the SLR digital camera any more. Well for the fans of SLR rest assured as SLR cameras are still being made by companies such as Canon, Minolta and Olympus to name but a few. As you are already probably aware SLR cameras are bigger but have more options, and for this reason SLR cameras tend to be more expensive than point and click ones. But what exactly is an SLR camera

SLR stands for single-lens reflex. This means that the composition and metering as well as the actual film exposure are being done through a single lens. Another way that these types of camera are known is TTL (through-the-lens). As cameras go, SLR has been the favoured type used by professional photographers for decades. The reason for this is that SLR cameras offer a direct view between your eye and the target of your pictures, which ensures a photo reflecting your vision. One thing that you do have to be wary of though is that, unlike the old fashioned more robust film versions, digital SLR cameras are quite sensitive and easily broken.. The reason for this is because there are a lot more electronic components to a digital SLR camera than there were on film cameras, and once these are damaged, you probably will need to get a replacement, although repairs may be possible. But do not let that deter you from buying one, as if you look after it properly then the vast majority of digital SLR cameras sold work perfectly well for a long time, and give you good quality images for years to come.

One of the qualities and even an advantage of using a digital SLR camera, is that it is generally easier and faster to shoot and it tends to be more flexible than a normal camera. This is because it generally allows you to be able to change your lens as a feature. And quite often with digital SLR you will get an Auto focus feature. This feature enables automatic focusing and will help to give you superb image quality even in situations with low light availability . If you really push the boat out and invest in a really professional digital SLR then you will find that these use the best sensors the camera manufacturer can produce, resulting in exceptionally clear, vibrant images. But even if you just get a standard camera, you will find that the lenses made for SLR cameras are generally of a higher quality than those found in most point and shoot cameras, so you are always going to get a better final image.

A Few Tips on Used Digital SLR Cameras

Digital cameras are expensive to repair for a few reasons. If you have ever broken your digital camera, you know that usually you do not bother having it repaired after visiting the local electronic store and finding out how expensive it is. The reason for them being so expensive to repair is because they are built so compactly and with several components inside. This makes it hard to take it apart, and put it back together as the manufacturer did. You will need special machines/equipment, and these can cost a fortune (so it is probably not worth it, unless the camera has some value under it to you).

Digital cameras run into many problems. One of the most common problems is that the lens stops working (the zoom lens to be specific). Your zoom will either not work, or you will receive an error message on your screen. This is a commonly a result of the zoom lens being out of alignment.

Another common problem is that the hinge on the memory card door brakes. This is quite often, almost as often as the zoom lens issue. The battery cover may also be broken or scratched, or a broken LCD. The inside (where the memory card is inserted) can be become damaged if a memory card is forced in the wrong way.

Before jumping to the conclusion that your digital camera is broken, you should do a few things. You should check if the battery on your camera is low, because this will cause a camera to not function properly. Try charging the battery and see if this solves your problem. Secondly, be sure that no one has altered the settings. This is a common mistake. You should be able to reset settings to the factory default. Also, when a memory card is full, the camera may not turn on (this only applies to some digital cameras).

If your camera is really broken, contact the manufacturer. Maybe your camera has some sort of warranty. If not, find out how much repair and shipping will cost. Sometimes companies will repair it for free, but this is not extremely common. It is always good to get warranty when you purchase a camera, because you never know what is going to happen. All in all, if your camera is really broken and you cannot get it fixed for free, you are better off just buying a new camera. Be careful and take care of your digital cameras!

SLR Camera Comparison - Rebel XSi, D40, EOS 40D and D90

There are tons of digital SLR cameras available that have promising potential, making it hard for some consumers to narrow down their choices and pick out one that best suits their needs. So to make choosing a bit easier for potential camera buyers, we'll look at four of the more popular DSLRs today: the Rebel XSi, Nikon D40, Canon EOS 40D, and Nikon D90.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi

The Digital Rebel XSi measures around 12 inches with the body weighing 16.8 oz. The shutter speed is 1/4000 sec and has a 3.5 frames per second shooting speed. Like other digital SLR cameras, the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi also has image-stabilized lens kit and a built-in sensor cleaning system. In addition to spot meter, nine point autofocus, and mirror lockup, the Rebel XSi also comes with software dust removal and 35-zone metering. The ISO range is from 100 to 1600. Another great feature of the Rebel XSi is the Auto Lighting Optimizer which improves shadow detail and highlights. You can also opt to get the automatic depth of field and wireless remote and flash option available with the camera.

Nikon D40

Among the features that the Nikon D40 has that give it a regular spot in SLR camera comparison articles are the following: 1/4000-second shutter speed, nine different program modes and settings, in-camera editing, and 1/500-second flash sync. The D40 also comes with built-in help files to make it easier for users to familiarize themselves with the camera. The D40 has TTL flash metering and color matrix metering system. The ISO range is from 200-1600, giving users different ISO options depending on the type of shots they intend to take. The D40 weighs around 17 ounces, has a 2.5 frames per second shooting speed, and comes with optional wireless remote feature.

Canon EOS 40D

The Canon EOS 40D has a sturdy magnesium body that makes the camera less prone to damage due to weather conditions. It has a shutter speed of 1/8000 sec, 6.5 frames per second shooting speed, and 1/250-second flash sync. Measuring 10.13 inches, the Canon EOS 40D scores points for having a Live View features on the LCD screen with optional grid overlay. Like other digital SLR cameras, the EOS 40D also has software dust removal and built-in sensor cleaning. Among other features are mirror lockup, 9-point autofocus, spot meter, Highlight Tone Priority, ISO range of 100 to 1600, and six program modes.

Nikon D90

The Nikon D90 may not have mirror lockup and focus adjustment, but this 12.33-inch baby has video capabilities with monaural sound, 24 frames per second video image capture, and support for the following formats: VGA, QVGA, and HD. For still shots, however, the D90 has 4.5 frames per second shooting speed, ISO range of 100-6400, spot meter, 11 automatic focus points, and customizable settings. The D90 sells for an estimated price of US $1,120.

Digital SLR Camera Comparison Guide

This article is about a digital SLR camera comparison, between four models: Nikon D40, Canon EOS Digital Rebel Xsi, Nikon D90 and Canon EOS 40D.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel Xsi

When it comes to value and performance, the Canon Rebel DSLR has the best balance between the two. Whatever setting you use, either manual or automatic, the quality of the photos is very good. One of the features that are included with this digital camera is the Live View included in the 3 inch LCD. With the Live View, you can see how the shot will look like before you take the photo. The photos are sharper since it comes with an image stabilized kit lens and a sensor cleaner.

Nikon D40

The Nikon D40 comes with great photo quality and a lot of customers gave it great reviews. The drawbacks are the resolution and the speed of the camera. The Canon EOS Digital Rebel Xsi is better in these departments. If you only want to make some regular prints, 8 by 10 inches, then the 6 megapixels of this camera will be more than enough. It comes with a clear and bright 2.5 inch LCD screen. You can take photos at a maximum speed of 2.5 frames every second. If you want to take sports photos, then this camera will not suit your needs. Another problem is that it doesn't focus well when the light is dim.

Canon EOS 40D

The Canon EOS 40D is a bit more expensive than other models, but the review seem to indicate that the extra money is worth it. The things that make it worth the price include the magnesium camera body which is sturdy, the fact that it's water resistant. You can also do action photos with it, since it can take 6.5 photos per second. The camera also comes with a sensor cleaner that is built in, Live View and an image stabilized kit lens that is optional. While the Nikon D300 offers similar performances, it costs much more than the EOS 40D.

Nikon D90

The great advantage of the Nikon D90 is that it can shoot videos, something that most other SLR cameras can't do. The 3 inch LCD screen has LCD, which allows for the movie to be made on it. The movies are made in 720p HD format, but its features are limited, so don't buy it if you want to make movies regularly with it. However, if you want to take photos, the 12.3 megapixels insure that the quality is very good, and you can clearly see that it's better than the D80 here. The shooting speed is 4 photos per second, which is less than the Canon 40D.

The 5D Mk2 is a Very Good Canon SLR Digital Camera

The good aspects - The Canon 5D Mk2 is a very good choice if you want to buy a DSLR camera that is full-frame. I used to have a Canon 1DS Mk2, but this new model is more sensitive to light by at least one F-stop. It also has an accurate and fast auto focus system during single shot mode. Also the auto-exposure system is more is more accurate than the one on my former camera.

The LCD screen is pretty impressive. It has a 3 inch LCD screen with 900,000 pixels. Menus are easy to handle and understand and "Live View" will surely impress you if this is the first time you own a DSLR with this feature. But keep in mind that it is a battery drainer and once the imager circuitry from the CMOS heats up the live-view will be automatically turned off not to add noise to the images.

The battery grip of the BG-E6, which is optional, is also a very good accessory to take into consideration, as it's a lot easier to hold the camera taller using it.

The bad aspects - When in camera mode you don't have any control over shutter speed, ISO setting or iris. It has a lock button which you press when you think you've got the best image that the camera automatically adjusts in the settings area. The thing is that after each photo, the lock resets, so you risk in getting non consistent exposures when trying to repeatedly take a scene. You can only adjust the temperature setting.

The camera can only record at 30.00 frames per second instead of 29.97. It looks like a small difference, but due to this you'll need to modify every single file's header with Apple Cinema Tools or some other similar program before editing the movie you made and turning it into a regular broadcast, at 30FPS and 1080i/1080P. If you don't do this you'll have to render every single scene on the 30 fps time line, resulting in some skipped frames or just set up a 30.00 fps time line.

But this is only a problem if you're shooting for film or television, as no such broadcast operates at 30.00 fps. If you're using this camera only for web released videos, the 30.00 fps won't be a problem to you.

Another thing is the camera records audio using a sample rate of just 44.1kz when the standard is 48kz. Only Apple's Final Cut Pro can work with this file at any sample rate. As I've said before, this won't be a problem if your videos are for uploading on the Internet.

Also you may notice the H.264 block artifacts in some low light or low contrast scenes. I could say that these artifacts are more obvious than the Canon's HF10, 1080 video camera encoding.

The video is noise-free except for red. You'll especially notice this when shooting in shadow areas.
