Canon has hit a home run with the Canon Rebel T2i (aka 550D)!
The entry level digital SLR is getting rave reviews just about everywhere in the photography community. It is being applauded as the greatest sub-$1000 dslr camera now on the market.
What is all the hype about? Why is this little digital camera getting all the headlines in the photography community?
There is no official data to support this statement, but it seems that the set of features of the new Rebel is very much like another recent launch in the Canon line-up, the 7D, at roughly one-half the cost.
The price distinction is not unsubstantiated, but unless you are an extremely discerning professional, it would be tough to tell the distinction in photos and video relating to these two digital SLR cameras.
Pleasure from the total picture taking adventure is perhaps the most important motive for getting a new Canon Rebel T2i.. The convenience of using the controls to command your digital camera to get the exact picture you want. Is it depth of field you want to manage? Or do you want to get an award winning action shot of your kid's football game? All this is possible with a terrific digital SLR camera.
And how about this.. No more waiting around for the digital camera to make up its mind to finally "snap" the image, seemingly an eternity after you pushed the shutter button.
Digital SLR buyers are truly thrilled about the inclusion of video. And in the 550D, the quality of the video output is vastly improved. Despite the fact that there are some other versions of DSLR cameras that have video, and the first few cameras that had video did not do it that well. Now, with the 550D video has reached a quality that is very remarkable. Point and shoot camera owners that take lots of video are now finding a compelling reason to finally move up to a DLSR.
Another improvement is the ISO, or low light picture capability. Digital SLR cameras have always had the capacity to create far better pictures than point and shoot cameras, particularly in low light situations. However, previously the pictures taken at higher ISO settings (which is required in low light) had too much noise, especially over the 800 ISO level. This is no longer true. It is now possible with the Canon Rebel T2i to take great photos at even ISO 3200 or ISO 6400. This is a key advantage for people who like to take pictures at indoor events or at night.
A fantastic way to learn whether a new camera is worthy of your consideration is to check with individuals who have recently actually spent money to buy one. The amount of remarks from those people have been on the rise and most are extremely positive.
Here are three comments that seemed particularly relevant:
"Have owned all Rebels except the 500D,and this is easily the best. It's the best small DSLR on the market by a good bit."
"I just got the camera (upgraded from the 300D). I didn't think much of the "Live View" as an option before I bought it. I can see I'll be using this as an advantage... The "quick control" button is going to be game changer for me also, it is much easier to see what all the setting are at and I can make changes from the screen directly."
"I'm impressed with the quality of shots in low-low light, this was using kit lens... After parking an older Rebel (film version) for the digital point and shoots, this camera feel like going home after a long absence..is loaded with great features."
Is it time for you to make the move to a Canon Rebel T2i digital SLR camera? You will have to decide for yourself, but there are very few purchasers who have encountered buyer's remorse with this little gem.
