The Best Way to Have a Baby Boy - Tips to Sway the Odds

If you are wanting to add to your family, like many couples you may want to choose the gender of your next child. For couples wondering which is the best way to have a baby boy, there are a number of simple steps you can take which will naturally sway the odds in your favor.

As most people already know, it is the sperm which determines the sex of a baby. A man has a roughly equal quantity of both "X" and "Y" sperm (male and female) so you would think that the chances of having a boy or a girl are always the same. However, this is not the case and knowing a little about the behavior of sperm can help.

Compared to female sperm, male sperm tends to be much faster and is smaller. However, it is not as robust and has a much shorter survival period. It prefers a mildly alkaline environment.

So how can we use this information to our advantage to determine the best way to have a baby boy?

As male sperm has a short lifespan, having intercourse as close to the time of ovulation is essential. Having intercourse a day or two beforehand is counter-productive as it will mean that the male sperm will have perished by at the crucial time, but that the longer lasting female sperm will be ready and waiting to fertilize the newly-released egg. Although the male will have swam up the vaginal tract and into the womb before the female sperm, this will have been to no avail. Use an ovulation predictor kit and as soon as the results are reading positive, have intercourse as soon as possible.

As male sperm prefer an alkaline environment, knowing the pH level of the vagina is essential if you are really serious about influencing your baby's gender. Simple pH testing strips can be bought at a reasonable cost and once you know if the vagina is acidic or alkaline, you can alter the balance by eating certain foodstuffs for a boy, such as meats, salty foods and caffeine. Also, alkaline douches, such as a very mild solution of baking soda, can sway the balance.

The Best SLR Camera

You've tried the rest, now it's time to try the best SLR camera. Sure, point and shoot cameras filled a need, but a good SLR, is really the way to go. I'm sure this all be exactly what you need, but I also appreciate how scary those SLR cameras can be.

It's my job here today, to illuminate you on the Single Lens Reflex camera. Once you get past all the marketing hype encompassing digital SLR cameras, they really seem like child's play. While it's worthwhile understanding what your buying, it's also important dodge getting trapped in the endless loop of analyzing every little detail to death.

OK, don't hide in the shadows, let's dive right into the fray. All the technology embedded into these cameras may seem like too much, but it's actually the most fun of all. Stick with me, and I'll make it worthwhile. Just ask someone in the business of digital photography, and they'll tell you how challenging and demanding the market is. Manufacturers and resellers alike, have to offer more and more features with their DSLRs and entice customers with ridiculously lower prices.

So, stranger things have happened, but all this competition and high technology is about to make you a much happier consumer. You can literally wear rose colored glasses, and throw a dart at a board of the top digital SLR cameras, and select a great SLR digital. No matter how hard you try, it's unlikely you'll find a bad digital SLR in the bunch. Any of these cameras are sure to put a smile on your face. It would be hard to go wrong with a Canon Rebel XSi, now that prices have dropped with the T1i release. I'm also a fan of the Olympus Evolt model line, or the Nikon D90.

Buying a top quality camera for under $1000 is quite an accomplishment. At these prices, digital SLRs are really one of the few gadgets that hold their value. Those of us that spent big money for very basic digital cameras five or six years ago, will remember.

It's definitely worth mentioning, that the biggest factor in the quality of your photographs has very little to do with buying the best SLR camera available. You and your ability to make out quality photo opportunities are really more significant when it comes to freezing a moment in time. A gifted photographer can take engaging photographs with just about any lens and body.

At the moment, using the internet to buy a camera can work to your benefit. If your looking for different options, and the cheapest prices, it makes more sense to buy a digital camera online.

Even with so many DSLR choices, internet shopping for cameras is pretty painless. Well, you can't research forever, which camera is it going to be? Not sure what you think, but I'd rather be snapping some photos, than shopping for one.

Best SLR Digital Camera For 2009

Digital SLR comes from digital single lens reflex, which is named this way because of the mirror that sits behind the lens of the camera and sends the light to the viewfinder.

The digital SLR's are designed in such a way that you can use a lot of different lenses, with different focal lengths. This versatility is the reason why digital SLR cameras are so popular among professionals. When you're using a camera that is not a SLR, you need to match the angle of the viewing lens with the angle of view. If you're doing short-range zoom or you have a fixed lens, then it's OK, but at different focal lengths it can be much more difficult. The SLR is better because the viewing and taking lens are the same.

While entry level digital SLR cameras don't always have Live View, advanced models usually do, and they let you compose the photos just like you do with a snapshot camera. The basic models will lock the mirror, and the prism will divert the image towards a sensor that is small. Then, instead of sending it to a capture sensor, it will be sent to the LCD screen, which can take down the performance a bit. If you're getting an older model you might need to focus on the image manually when you are in Live View, though contrast autofocus is available in newer digital cameras.

Digital SLR Camera Types

Digital SLR With Interchangeable-lens

These models are those considered as SLR's by most people. They're also the ones that we'll be talking about in this article. Just like the name says, in these SLR cameras you can change their lenses. This way you're able to switch from a supertelephoto lens to an ultra wide angle.

Examples: Basically, most digital SLR cameras that are sold today belong to this type.

Digital SLR With Fixed Lens

On these digital SLR's, the versatility is limited by the fact that you can't change the default lens. The mirror that bounces the light towards the viewfinder is nonmoving and semi-transparent in most of these models.

One example of a camera with fixed lens is the Olympus E-20N

Camera similar to SLR's

Cameras that look like digital SLR cameras are usually digicams that have either an optical finder or a small LCD. You can't consider them as digital SLR cameras since the mirror is missing, and the quality of the photos isn't even close to what you can do with a true SLR. Usually, this type of camera has a very long zoom, and another name for them is magazooms or ZLRs.

LCD V Plasma - What's the Best Choice of HDTV?

Okay, so you're looking to upgrade your TV to something far more impressive. You've heard about LCD and Plasma, but you're not quite sure which is the best choice for you.

Okay, so let's take a look at some vital aspects of TV's...

Contrast

LCD TV's are much better than they used to be, but Plasma TV's still have the edge on the contrast issue. This is due to the fact that LCD cells are lit from behind even when showing black, whereas Plasma cells are completely switched off when showing black.

Color

Plasma tends to be better for color, but it does depend on the light, the manufacturer, and the particular model of TV. Plasma color is better in rooms with normal or lower lighting, whereas LCD color is better in rooms that are brightly lit, due to their brightness and built-in anti-glare technology.

Viewing Angles

LCD TV's have better viewing angles than they used to have, and you can expect the best LCD HDTV models to have about 120 to 130 degree viewing angles. However, Plasma TV's still win on this at the moment.

Computer Use

LCD screens are the best for computer use, as they are great for displaying static images without having flicker, and most importantly, no screen burn-in as can happen with Plasma screens. They are also great at displaying lots of data with wonderful precision and clarity, for example large spreadsheets.

Fast Action Sequences

Plasma wins when it comes to fast action, due to their ability to handle fast-moving images, and also their high contrast levels. LCD screens are better than they used to be for fast action, but still not quite up to the standard that Plasma has set.

Power Consumption

LCD's use approximately half of the power than their Plasma counterparts. This is due to the fact that LCD's are illuminated by florescent backlighting, whereas Plasmas use a lot of electricity to illuminate each individual pixel on it's own.

Screen Resolution

LCD's win here, as they have higher screen resolutions per screen size. For example, a 40-inch LCD screen would have a resolution of no less than 1366 x 768, whereas a 42-inch Plasma screen would have a resolution of only 1024 x 768.

In Conclusion

So, which type of HDTV should you choose? Well, think about what you are going to most likely be using it for. For example, if you are a fan of watching fast action movies in the dark, or you are a sports fan, then Plasma is the choice for you. However, if you are more into slower-paced shows, or would like to be able to use your screen for computer use, then LCD is the one you need to get.
